I was excited when I saw this
I was excited when I saw this randomly generated spread. I really was. I envisioned our three-person game being filled with tense, small-card tactics inspired by the threat of Saboteur and the presence of Baron, Coppersmith and Bridge. I saw Duke-Duchy as being the only real way to get victory points and I was dead certain that the game would end because we ran out of 3 supply piles rather than Provinces.
This was all wrong.
I spread my early purchases around getting Baron, Silver, Bridge and Coppersmith in the early rounds. Between the multiple buys and Saboteur holding down card inflation, I would fill my hands with copper and estates and reap the rich rewards. This never really materialized. My friend Jim got three Torturers and tormented us for the whole game. He used them to beat us down and fill his hand with treasure in a straight forward silver -> gold -> Province progression. He did also get two Dukes and four Duchies, but that was just icing on his seven (!) provinces. The other player, Davely, followed suit, but it was too late. No one bought any Saboteurs - at all.
Jim beat us 66 to 32 to my 33.
So: Any suggestions on how to alter the spread to create the type of game I was looking for in the first place?
